How to Get More Balance and Flow in Your System with Crossovers
“When your day is long
And the night, the night is yours alone
When you're sure you've had enough
Of this life, well hang on”
- R.E.M.
Sometimes when you feel lethargic, groggy, or down in the dumps it’s difficult to get yourself going again.
Energetically, your energies could be running in a homolateral pattern.
What does that mean?
Energy runs in patterns. The crossover pattern is a foundational and essential one for a vital, healthy, happy self. The crossovers are displayed in our physical body as the right side of the brain controlling the left side of the body and vice versa Crossovers are also present at the micro level in the double helix of our DNA.
Sometimes our energy can get stuck running in a straight up and down on each side of body (homolateral) pattern (II), instead of crossing over (X). This could be a result of stress, overwhelm, toxins, shock, illness, etc.
The more crossovers, the healthier and happier you will feel. The flow and communication of the energy in your system is connected, moving and crossing in a Figure 8 pattern, helping you feel refreshed and receptive.
A few signs you need more Crossovers in your field:
Feeling down or depressed
Losing your balance, less coordinated
Foggy-headed thinking
Chronically tired
Difficulty healing
Mentally sluggish
The Mighty Figure 8
Healing is all about the Figure 8.
Every energy system in your body has a crossover figure 8 pattern present. This pattern enhances connection and carries essential information within your body. As Donna Eden states, ‘You cannot get well if your energies are in a homolateral pattern.’ The Figure 8 provides connection where there was disconnection and gives the vital support for your internal template of health. I think of it as ‘stitching’ things back together.
When can Crossovers benefit you?
The figure 8 and crossovers bring you out of stagnation and into your flow, moves you from indifference to inspiration and when you feel dull it can sharpen your focus.
Computer Work: Helping strengthen the crossovers in your body is helpful during or after computer work when your eyes and brain feel tired.
Homework or Testing: Additionally can help kids with homework or test taking…getting the right and left hemispheres of the brain communicating!
Athletic Performance: Also great for prior to a run or any athletic or sports event—getting your energies crossing gives you an edge with the competition!
Sluggishness: Or if you are feeling sluggish, down or just not yourself, give these crossover exercises a try…
Get more Crossovers for better balance and coordination, clearer thinking and brighter mood!
I recorded this video after being at my kids’ elementary school to share this info. It shows 3 different ways to get the crossovers moving, about 3 min long! You can do all of it sitting down! Still has the same benefit.
If this exercise didn’t feel that great, you may need a slightly different approach:
Start with marching and tap hand to leg on same side of body (II) (right hand to right leg, left hand to left leg) about 12 times
Then tap hand to opposite leg, alternating sides (X) about 12 times
Go back to marching and tap hand to leg on same side of body (II) about 12 times
End with tapping hand to opposite leg, alternating sides (X) for about 24 times.
*This method starts where the body is at - the homolateral state - and slowly brings it over to the crossover state.
You can do all of this sitting down! It’s not about being aerobic, it’s about crossing. It will still have the same benefit. Keep breathing through the whole thing.
